OFFICERS

Key Responsibilities

1. Mission, Vision & Equity Alignment

  • Uphold and promote The Association commitment to provide frequent forums where the Bucksport Community can get together to discuss issues and arrive at mutual solutions.

  • Ensure all decisions support the organization’s mission to improve communication between the Bucksport Community and local partnerships.

  • To make every effort to promote safety, health, and the culture of the community.

  • To ensure the Bucksport Community are aware of changes that could potentially impact on the community.

  • To provide continuing education to residents as it relates to Sustainable Communities; Economic Development; and Cultural Heritage.

 

2. Governance & Organizational Oversight

  • Provide fiduciary oversight to ensure responsible stewardship of financial and organizational resources.

  • Review and approve budgets, policies, and strategic initiatives that align with the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations applicable to a 501(c)(3) organization.

  • Participate in the development, review, and implementation of organizational policies and governance practices.

  • Support evaluation of programs to ensure effectiveness, equity, and community impact.

 

3. Strategic Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan.

  • Identify opportunities to expand programs that support education, workforce development, sustainability, and cultural preservation in the Bucksport community.

  • Leverage professional expertise to strengthen organizational infrastructure, systems, and leadership capacity.

  • Support innovation by recommending new initiatives that respond to emerging community needs.

  • Mentor staff, volunteers, and emerging leaders when appropriate.

 

4. Fundraising & Resource Development

  • Actively support fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, sponsorships, grants, and events.

  • Contribute personally at a level meaningful to demonstrate commitment to the organization.

  • Assist in identifying and securing partnerships with businesses, foundations, and community stakeholders.

  • Serve as ambassadors by promoting fundraising campaigns and events within personal and professional networks.

  • Support long-term sustainability through resource diversification strategies.

5. Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Serve as a visible advocate for the Bucksport community and the organization’s mission.

  • Build and maintain relationships with residents, community leaders, and partner organizations.

  • Promote inclusive engagement by ensuring community voices are represented in decision-making processes.

  • Advocate for policies and initiatives that improve quality of life, economic opportunity, and environmental sustainability.

  • Support outreach efforts that increase awareness, participation, and trust within the community.

 

6. Board Participation & Accountability

  • Attend and actively participate in all board meetings, committee meetings, and organizational events.

  • Prepare for meetings by reviewing materials and contributing thoughtful insights.

  • Serve on at least one board committee and actively engage in its work.

  • Collaborate respectfully with fellow board members, staff, and stakeholders.

  • Uphold accountability by following through on commitments and assigned responsibilities.

 

7. Ethical Conduct & Confidentiality

  • Maintain the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical behavior.

  • Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any potential conflicts in accordance with organizational policies.

  • Protect confidential information related to the organization, its partners, and community members.

  • Act in the best interest of the organization and the community at all times.

  • Promote a culture of transparency, trust, and respect.

  • Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to community service, equity, and the mission of The Association for the Betterment of Bucksport.

  • Experience or interest in one or more of the following areas: nonprofit leadership, education, workforce development, public health, environmental sustainability, finance, law, or community development.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to long-term planning.

  • Willingness to dedicate time, resources, and energy to board service.

  • Connection to or understanding of the Bucksport community is strongly preferred.
